The Daily Standup modal brings focus to each teammate

Overview

AI Daily Standup is a feature I designed at monday dev to turn unfocused status meetings into short, structured, and actionable syncs.
I led the product design in a hackathon-style sprint, running several rounds of user interviews with team leads and teammates, and iterating closely with developers.

Challenge

Teams consistently described their standups as going “off the rails” with long, unfocused updates that caused people to zone out and still didn’t provide a clear picture of what was done, what was in progress, or what was blocked. We needed a way to “take back the standup” and make it genuinely useful again—without adding extra process or overhead.

Anacdote

As I evolved the feature toward GA, I redesigned the experience to:

Reduce noise coming from the AI suggestion column by removing it.

Clean up the overall UI to make the layout calmer and easier to scan in real time

Add calendar integration, grounding updates in the team’s actual schedule and upcoming events, and also learning who is working today and who is on vacation.

Solution

AI Daily Standup acts like a structured moderator for the meeting: for each teammate it presents three clear columns—tasks completed in the last 24 hours, what they’re working on now, and an AI-powered suggestion for what to tackle next. A built-in speaking timer keeps updates short and focused, while the AI also flags unassigned work so teammates can claim tasks directly from the standup. Facilitators can cycle or shuffle the order of speakers to keep the energy high and the flow predictable.

Impact

Turned daily standups into time-boxed syncs instead of vague reporting. Gave teams a single, live view of who’s doing what right now. The interaction and structure were strong enough to support a design patent.

In simple terms, Daily Standup behaves like a disciplined meeting host: it keeps everyone on-topic.
